Objective: To evaluate the effect of Forsus appliance on maxillofacial and temporal- mandibular joint of class II mandibular retrusion malocclusion.
Methods: Twenty one youth patients with class II mandibular retrusion were treated with Forsus appliance and scaned with CBCT before and after treatment. The tooth, maxillofacial and temporal-mandibular joint were rebuilt and measured by Invivo 5 software, and the changes of maxillary and mandilular were metered by Pancherz analysis. Results: The indexes related to position of condyle were not significant changed (P>0.05), and the Pancherz analysis indicated significant difference between pre- and postreatment(P<0.05). Conclusion: With the treatment of Forsus, the condyle of temporal-mandibular joint could not change obviously, the mandibular grows forward, and the position of occlusion and lateral face is corrected probably due to the growth of mandibular and the rebuild of alveolar.
